This Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday and the Gospel is from John. This Scripture describes the time following the Resurrection when Jesus appeared to His Apostles in the upper room. Thomas was not present at this time.
When Thomas returned, the other disciples told him about Jesus’ appearance. Thomas did not believe them and made the statement, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
When Jesus returned and invited Thomas to do as he had stated, Thomas believed. Jesus then said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
Fr. Jim Willig gives a very emotional homily based on the life of another Tommy. Fr. Jim feels his own mortality as he shares this heartfelt story.
Fr. Michael Sparough not only reads the Gospel for us, but he also shares Pope Francis’ homily from Divine Mercy Sunday in 2014.
