In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus is once again challenged. This time it is the Sadducees who try to trick Jesus. They give Him an outlandish scenario of a woman who marries a man who in turn dies, so she marries his brother.
This brother also passes away and then the scenario is repeated. By the end of the story, this poor widow has been married to all seven brothers, all dying before her. Finally the woman dies. The Sadducees then pose the question to Jesus, “Whose wife will this woman be at the Resurrection?”
Jesus knew this was a setup because the Sadducees did not believe in an afterlife. Jesus responded by quoting Scripture. He emphasized that Moses himself implied that the dead rise. So God is not of the dead, but of the living.
