This Sunday the Gospel is from Luke. It takes place on the Lake of Gennesaret, the waters where many of Jesus’ disciples went fishing. While speaking to a crowd, Jesus spotted two boats on the water’s edge. The fishermen had completed their day of work and were cleaning their nets.
Jesus got into Simon’s boat and instructed him to go back out into the deep water, commanding Simon to drop his net. Simon replied, ‘Master, we worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out the nets.’
And when the fishermen had done this, they caught such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear, so they signaled to their companions in the other boat to come and help them, When these came, they filled both boats to sinking point. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus saying, ‘Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.’
