“The Heart of the Matter (Mark 7: 1-23)” by Fr. Michael Sparough, S.J.

This gospel reading from Mark addresses a time when the Pharisees observed some of Jesus’ disciples not washing their hands before eating. The Pharisees confronted Jesus, asking Him why His followers did not follow the Jewish law.

Jesus responded calling the Pharisees hypocrites, claiming that they follow traditions but disregard God’s commandments.

Fr. Michael gives many examples in present day life when we can fall into the same trap as the Pharisees looking outward rather than inward.
