“Blessed Are The Peacemakers” by Fr. Michael Sparough, S.J.

The 7th Beatitude is “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” Fr. Michael shares the Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. It states that “I want to be an instrument of Your peace.” It is also saying, “I want to bring Your children to Jesus.” We become instruments of God’s peace by becoming light to the world.

The vice that is the opposite of peacemaking is jealousy. Fr. Michael uses the example of Cain and Abel. Cain was so jealous of his brother Abel, that Cain kills him. In this case, jealousy bred contempt and resulted in murder.
