“Divorce and Remarriage – Mark 10: 2-8)” by Fr. Jim Willig

This Gospel of Mark discusses divorce. Fr. Jim unfolds this Scripture to help us in our present time understand the old Jewish law and what it means for us today.

Jesus Christ knew that the Pharisees were trying to trap him with the law of Moses. During this time period, only a husband could divorce his wife, because women were treated like property. The reasons men used for divorce were often trivial. The result left the abandoned women and  children helpless and homeless. Jesus stressed the sanctity of marriage for both the wife and the husband.
